after he aggravated his groin injury before halftime. He had been limited most of the week since suffering the injury in the American Athletic Conference tournament semifinals on March 11.
“After the game he missed on Sunday, you know, he didn't do anything Monday, or Tuesday,” Sampson said after the No. 1 seeded Cougars beat No. 16 seed Northern Kentucky 63-52. “ was the first time I really saw him do anything. And we've got a great trainer. And I have been with Marcus for four years. So, I trust Marcus and I trust our trainer. I leave those decisions up to them.
“Marcus knows his body better than anybody in this room, including me. So, I would have been fine if Marcus had decided not to play tonight. But he wanted to give it a try because he thought he was at a high enough percentage of 100 that he could. So obviously he got out there and didn't feel like he could, so he shut it down, which is the right thing to do.”
