The vote to delay Brexit leaves open whether the delay will allow time to implement the existing deal or to find a new course of action
I believe that there are some in the ERG camp who secretly think exactly what you said – but for most, opportunists that they are, the calculation is a more near term one: Will I be blamed by my arrgh followers if I deny WA3 and cause a long extension…or can I somehow create a narrative that blames May/Remainers/the EU? Could I help defeat WA3 and then use the long extension as a rallying cry to vote in the EU elections against Europe? The whole Farage nonsense…taking an EU salary yet hating...
Which path is politically. ore advantageous? That is the only question JRM types are asking themselves. Opportunists through and through. Performers. The deal is the WA+PD. The problem for ERG and the DUP is mainly the WA, for the opposition it is mainly the PD. The WA will not be changed. The PD can be changed, only if HMG drops part of its red lines. The DUP might have a change of mind, as well as part of the ERG, but another part of the ERG will not accept this WA.
Lost his wall funding demands in a humiliating way. Turned around, signed the legislation and pulled a Vienna 62-type move in form of a fake emergency declaration. He knows it will be struck down by the courts. He knows that the wall will not be built. But this is not about policy. It is about keeping the angry Trump crowd angry. Feeding Faux News soundbites so that the rabid right continues to live him.
Somebody compared the ERG to a temple. Some are opportunists, like BoJo, but some are ideologists, like Steve Baker. Rees-Mogg is an ideologist, but knows when to cut his losses. The hardcore ERG members will never vote for the WA, but they absolutely do not want to remain in the EU either.Btw, did you notice how quiet our rabid right friends are? Not a good day today, I guessAstonishing. I thought they would never give up. Even in DT forum there is rather frustration and lack of energy.
