'Not an Oreo. An R-E-O'
Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson appeared confused about a term related to foreclosure during a Tuesday hearing, asking a congresswoman if she was questioning him about Oreo cookies.
I asked @SecretaryCarson about REOs - a basic term related to foreclosure - at a hearing today. He thought I was referring to a chocolate sandwich cookie. No, really. pic.twitter.com/cYekJAkRagNo, said Porter. “Not an Oreo. An R-E-O.” After Carson incorrectly said that the “O” stood for “organization,” Porter explained the acronym stands for “real estate owned”: “That’s what happens when a property goes to foreclosure. We call it an REO.
Carson followed up with a tweet of his own, saying “OH, REO!” and thanking Porter before saying he’d send her some Oreos.
