FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Over 50 illnesses around the country - and one possibly related death - have led to the investigation and recall of certain microdosing edible candies laced with the chemical muscimol that have been distributed in Alaska.
So far, at least 58 illnesses have been confirmed across 27 states, including Alaska, and 30 people have been hospitalized. One death is being potentially linked to the outbreak. The chief symptoms have targeted the central nervous system, heart, and digestive system. They include seizures, involuntary muscle contractions, abnormal heart rates, confusion, nausea and vomiting.
The recalled products include infused ice cream cones, chocolate bars, and a dozen flavors of gummies ranging in advertised potency from microdose to extreme/megadose. All lots, best-by dates and flavors are included in the recall.
