“At age 18, citizens are eligible to vote, be drafted, serve in the military, serve on a jury, enter into contracts, sue and be sued, get married and own property,” the email read. “Restricting their right to purchase and own firearms based on age is unconstitutional and will not reduce crime.”The bill’s passage through committee was largely a symbolic victory for the Uvalde families, who knew it faced an uphill battle afterward.
