While she did give them the numbers, she said she realized quickly that it was a scam and called her bank to freeze all her accounts, with no money lost as of Sept. 28 and the investigation continuing.At least two residents reported receiving phone calls around Sept. 25 from people claiming to be Pepper Pike police officers -- even using the names of actual members on the force.
The residents hung up on the suspects before any method of payment could be discussed, although the real police speculated that, if true to form, the crooks would ask for the sums to be paid to them in gift cards.Responding to a report of an intoxicated man having a possible psychiatric situation around 6 a.m. Sept. 24, police met with the subject, who admitted to having about six drinks since 2 a.m.
