Alaska, where roughly one in 10 residents has served in the armed forces, will observe Veterans Day on Friday. Here are some of the events happening in Anchorage and the surrounding area.
— Maj. Gen. Torrence Saxe, adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard, will host a Veterans Day ceremony at the Alaska National Guard armory Friday at 10:30 a.m. on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
The ceremony will honor the women and men who have served in the armed forces and include the announcement of the 2022 Governor’s Veterans Advocacy Award recipient. Civilians requiring base access must obtain a visitor’s pass at the Visitor Control Center. For additional information on the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Day ceremony, call the Office of Veterans Affairs at 907-334-0874.— Acoustic Steak Night’s featured musician is U.S. Navy veteran and Legionnaire Stephen Hendricks. Hendricks, a folk and blues player, will perform from 6-8 p.m.
