As evidence, iStories highlighted Mr Shoigu’s last major appearance on Russian television. That was on July 4 in Putin’s office, when he reportedDuring the meeting, which was supposed to mark a rare Russian military success, iStories said Putin told Mr Shoigu that generals commanding Russian forces had already informed him of the news.
“Shoigu has likely long struggled to overcome his reputation as lacking substantive military experience,” said the MoD. Although some Western analysts have been sceptical of reports that Putin has sidelined Mr Shoigu, he has previously been quick to fire FSB intelligence chiefs and military commanders who he feels have let him down.
After graduating in engineering, Mr Shoigu used his father’s connections to help him move to Moscow and secure a job as head of the Russian State Architecture and Construction Committee. He is considered popular with the Russian public. He had been credited with modernising the Russian army in his decade as defence minister and some commentators once even speculated that he may succeed Putin as president., support for the war falling and his supposed modernisation programme an apparent failure, views have changed.
