Taxpayers in the West Shore School District should vote on May 16th for the candidates in their region who best represent their community, tax dollars, and property values

Decades ago, Martin Luther King, Jr. preached of the “fierce urgency of now.” Today, public education is under attack. There is an urgency in local school board elections for what should be a nonpolitical position. Outside groups are pouring money into local races. The days when school board races were uncontested and quite frankly, uninteresting, are gone. To a certain extent, this is welcoming as civic engagement is an awesome responsibility, but the urgency of this moment requires scrutiny.
The Friends of West Shore School District has endorsed a bipartisan slate of candidates who hold the singular vision of providing opportunities for all students in the district. The five endorsed candidates – newcomers Richie Treadway and Adam Trone, together with incumbents Judy Crocenzi, Tony Kapranos, and Fred Stoltenburg - recognize that a dramatic increase in litigation funded by groups outside the district threatens the district’s fiscal balance.
