But it's not just the number of steps that counts if you want to lose weight, but the intensity. The team found that this pace is the equivalent of moderate-intensity exercise and helps burn three times the energy it takes to sit still.. However, that paper found that slower walkers had 20% more body fat than the faster walkers and, therefore, more to lose.
