A warehouse floor collapse in Toa Payoh, Singapore, on the eve of Chinese New Year, trapped three individuals, including two children. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) launched a swift rescue operation, freeing all victims after a 90-minute effort. The incident occurred at a warehouse unit occupied by AHT Carpet and Flooring, where a recently installed mezzanine floor collapsed, burying the occupants under rugs and storage racks.

In a dramatic incident that unfolded on the eve of Chinese New Year , the Singapore Civil Defence Force ( SCDF ) launched a swift rescue operation after a warehouse floor collapsed in Toa Payoh , trapping three individuals. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters discovered one person had already managed to free himself, while three others remained trapped under a cascade of rugs and storage racks.

The warehouse unit, occupied by AHT Carpet and Flooring, had a mezzanine floor installed just recently, in May 2024, by a vendor who assured the tenant, Mr. Hairul, that the structure was robust enough to handle the weight of the stored carpets. However, the assurance proved tragically inadequate as the mezzanine floor gave way, sending a torrent of rugs and shelving units crashing down. The SCDF dispatched a team of firefighters from Bishan Fire Station, along with specialists from the Special Response Unit and the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team. Working tirelessly in the cramped and hazardous environment, they meticulously removed the debris, cutting through the storage racks and clearing the mounds of rugs. After a grueling 90-minute operation, all three trapped individuals, two of whom were children, were successfully rescued. The two children were transported to KK Women's and Children's Hospital, while the two adults were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Thankfully, all four victims were conscious throughout the ordeal
