Wasilla Mayor Glenda Ledford said that Wasilla is running out of buildable land and is looking to expand opportunities for continued growth through “friendly annexation,' and that the city is working to address factors that limit business development.
WASILLA, Alaska - The Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce held its usual luncheon Tuesday at Evangelo’s Restaurant, and instead of giving her normal update at the twice monthly event, Wasilla Mayor Glenda Ledford was the keynote speaker.
However, Ledford said that Wasilla is running out of buildable land and is looking to expand opportunities for continued growth through what Ledford referred to as “friendly annexation,” and that the city is working to address factors limiting business development by maintaining and expanding local control.
The mayor also reminded attendees of the importance of shopping local. As Wasilla does not have a property tax, it relies heavily on sales tax to fund the city’s infrastructure.
