A picture of state Sen. Darren Bailey, R-Louisville, with four Waukegan elected officials — including Mayor Ann Taylor — caused a stir at the Waukegan City Council meeting.
The picture caused a stir at the Waukegan City Council meeting Monday at City Hall, where an activist distributed copies of the photograph and people were talking about it before the meeting began.Taylor said she held a breakfast for elected officials and other dignitaries Sunday morning before the city’s annual Fiestas Patrias parade and festival which started at noon. Bailey, who marched in the parade, was one of the guests, who included Democrats, Republicans and independents.
As different people were asking to take pictures, Taylor said Bailey requested one with Taylor and other officials. She posed with him in front of the City Hall Dias, along with City Treasurer Dr. John Schwab, Ald. Lynn Florian, 9th Ward and Ald. Felix Rivera, 7th Ward. Florian also said she was unaware the picture had appeared on the Darren Bailey for Governor Facebook page. She too said she was being cordial as an alderman. When she learned she was pictured with him on social media Tuesday morning, she reacted differently.
Shortly after learning she was pictured with Bailey on social media, she contacted his campaign and asked the picture be removed, writing, “The event was not a political event. The photo is posted on your website. I am requesting you remove it.”
