Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers will look to beat the Seattle Seahawks a third time this season when they meet in Saturday’s wild-card playoff game at Levi’s Stadium.
The Seahawks Sunday night once the Green Bay Packers were eliminated with a home loss to the Detroit Lions . Seattle, which edged the Rams 19-16 earlier in the day, owned the tiebreaker over the Lions by virtue of a Week 4 win at Detroit.
The 49ers got the No. 2 seed — and a potential, divisional-round home game — by owning a better record in NFC action than the No. 3 seed Vikings . This season’s 49ers have scored at least 30 points in seven of their past 10 games, including Sunday’s 38-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the regular-season finale.
“But nothing really matters how you’re doing going into it. It’s how you do that first game. If you play like you’re capable, then you get the privilege for a second game.” Dan Quinn, the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator who got his NFL start 20 years ago as a 49ers’ assistant, also has been requested for an interview with the Broncos. Jim Harbaugh, the 49ers’ coach from 2011-14, also reportedly is on the Broncos’ radar, as is ex-Saints coach and San Mateo native Sean Payton.
Because the 49ers have a Saturday game, their weekly routine got moved up a week, though there was no team meeting Monday as Shanahan wanted players to focus on health recovery.
