An eyesore on Jacksonville's Northbank for 14 years, the Berkman II tower is set to be imploded this morning. Here's what you should know before it falls.
Who is paying for the implosion?Who owns the Berkman Plaza II site?
PB Riverfront Revitalization of Jacksonville paid $5.5 million for the two-acre riverfront tract in May 2021 and committed to the city it would demolish the partly built tower. In January, when the city approved funds to pay for the implosion, City Chief Administrative Officer Brian Hughes said the city could be waiting"months and months" because a contractor involved in the demolition filed a construction lien contending PB Construction owes it about $1.
