Molly Hayward, one of the founders of Cora, a premium organic tampon startup, seeks to improve health and empower girls paid colehaan
Led by Hayward, Cora has brought health education and self-care products to girls and women in underserved areas of India and Kenya., a premium organic tampon startup that donates a month’s worth of sanitary period supplies to a girl in a developing country for each monthly membership a customer buys. Since Cora’s founding in 2014, the company has delivered more than 5 million menstruation products to women and girls in need in Kenya and India.
“They had such a strong social impact model integrated so deeply into the business,” she said. “At that time it really blew my mind because here you have this entity that has this endless potential for growth — and making a profit means that you can take that and reinvest it into these social or environmental benefits. It was a new frontier for me, and it was tremendously inspiring.
While she was taking the time to figure out her next move, a friend reached out with an opportunity to travel to Kenya with an NGO focused on women’s health and girls’ education.“It was the middle of the afternoon, and through our conversation, it came to light that she was home from school because she was on her period,” Hayward said. “She told me that all the girls stayed home when they had their period because they didn’t have proper sanitary options.
