Despite being mired in controversy for the past several years, a plethora of major stars is set to attend the 2023 Golden Globes. The ceremony will be the first to air after last year's awards show was canceled.
The Golden Globes 2023 will return to television this year with a comeback ceremony that has quite a few major stars confirmed to attend. Last year's ceremony did not air on television, as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was in hot water due to the revelation of an extreme lack of diversity in their voting body, as well as accusations of members being bribed in favor of certain nominees with lavish parties and trips.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Per Variety, quite a few major nominees and other stars have been confirmed to attend the comeback ceremony, including major directors Guillermo del Toro, Rian Johnson, and James Cameron. This also includes team members from buzzy awards season films like Everything Everywhere All At Once , The Fabelmans , Elvis , Blonde , and RRR .
Some stars have not been fully confirmed, though whether that is through scheduling issues or a reluctance to support the HFPA is currently unknown. Public statements ahead of next month's ceremony may clarify their positions. The list of maybes includes Glass Onion's Daniel Craig and Under the Banner of Heaven's Andrew Garfield. Babylon stars Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie have so far given no indication of their attendance one way or another.
So far, only one star has made their position on the Golden Globes 2023 absolutely clear. That would be Brendan Fraser, who is nominated for his role in the Darren Aronofsky film The Whale, a performance that many expect will lead to him winning his first Oscar. While Fraser has not spoken out about the recent controversies surrounding the HFPA, he has alleged that the former president of the organization Philip Berk groped and assaulted him at a luncheon put on by the organization.
