The five tracks provide a motivating and energizing soundtrack for any workout.

Any runner who’s laced up for morning miles knows that a good soundtrack is vital—for some, that means the cacophony of the city streets or the rhythm of their breath juxtaposed against chirping birds, but for others, that can mean thumping bass and high-tempo beats. But can a pop album made with the sport in mind be the ideal companion?

That’s the goal with the newest EP from Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Barrie. The EP, ,” features five tracks designed to accompany your next run perfectly. Barrie Lindsay’s dreamy vocals and upbeat instrumentals provide a motivating and energizing soundtrack for any workout.“The music felt like a good arc for running. I want this music to be good company; steady and light enough,” Lindsay said in a press release. “It’s literal, and it’s metaphorical; this EP is meant to be your running partner for whatever form of 5K you’re doing.

The first track, “Nocturne Interlude,” sets the tone for an upbeat run before transitioning into “Races,” which has bouncy keyboard and guitar riffs. “I love running to upbeat pop music, but my favorite song to run to is ‘Salt,’ by Alex G. It’s a slow and gauzy song, which should be antithetical to running. But when I’m listening to it, I get into a very good rhythm, and I don’t feel pressure to match the BPM of a four-on-the-floor kick drum beat.
