Charcoal toothpaste may have risen in popularity in the last few years, but dentists are warning that it may be causing more harm than good.
"When I ask what's changed, certainly more than a handful of times people have said 'oh I've changed toothpaste'.
Both dentists said it was important to use a toothpaste that contains fluoride, as it helps strengthen tooth enamel and reduces the risk of developing tooth decay. “Sugar is the main component which is possibly going to result in you having tooth decay - that's what the bacteria in the mouth use to create acid, which over time can result in the tooth decay needing to actually be treated,” she said.
