Rebel Moon May Not Get a Theatrical Release Most Netflix movies get some sort of limited theatrical release, but the trailer for Rebel Moon curiously specified "only on Netflix," and the streamer's recent release calendar doesn't specify any theatrical dates for Rebel Moon as it does for other upcoming releases like David Fincher’s The Killer.
While Warner Bros.’ Project Popcorn experiment during the pandemic was widely criticized for cannibalizing movies designed for theaters in favor of a streaming release, they mostly proved movies could make hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office and still make huge splashes on streaming. The two products aren’t directly competing, and in many ways a big box office opening could even boost a streaming release.
