Sanitized our hands. Grabbed a cab home to spring the babysitter. Date night! In an era that now seems as distant as the Jurassic.
We don’t watch anything together anymore. Ever. Please count this as one of the least important casualties of, but the act of communal marital media consumption—the sitting down together in front of...well, pretty much anything—has been utterly vanquished from my household. Why is this? Aren’t we confined to our homes? We are. Don’t we have screens at hand? We do. Is our social calendar full? It is not., but I cannot entirely blame them. If it weren’t for Vivian, eight, and William, five, we wouldn’t have all settled onto the sofa the other night for. They go to bed around 8 p.m. At which point weto indulge in a little grown-up fare.
This is not a cry for help. We are fine. We are totally losing our minds trying to balance our jobs and homeschooling and housework, but we are—maritally speaking—just fine. However, I cannot deny thatis the nightly tableau. And I know it represents some kind of loss.
