A woman in Singapore attempted to pay for meals at a Thai restaurant using fake PayNow screenshots but was caught after repeatedly trying the scam. She eventually repaid the money and apologized for her actions.

A woman who repeatedly attempted to deceive staff of a Thai restaurant in Katong by using fake PayNow screenshots has repaid nearly $200 after being called out online. The woman, who visited the restaurant three times in December, paid for her meals with fake transfer records on two occasions, but was caught the third time. The restaurant owner, surnamed Cai, first noticed the fraudulent payment on July 6, 2024, when the woman paid $196.20 for a meal and showed a fake PayNow screenshot.

Cai only realised the payment wasn't made a week later when checking bank transactions. Despite not lodging a police report, Cai became suspicious when the woman returned on December 28 and attempted the same trick for a $138.10 bill. When staff contacted Cai, she instructed them to stop the woman from leaving. The woman eventually paid by card on December 30 but returned two days later to repay the first $196.20 bill and gave staff a handwritten apology. The handwritten note, reported by Shin Min Daily News, admitted her wrongdoings and stated it was done out of greed
