Russian Diana Shnaider cruised to a 6-4, 7-5 victory over No. 1 seed Bernarda Pera of the United States in the first round of the Hungarian Grand Prix on Tuesday in Budapest.
Shnaider saved 7 of 11 break points to dispatch Pera, who couldn't hold leads of 1-0 and 3-1 in the second set. Shnaider did not commit a double fault while tallying four aces.
Hungary's Anna Bondar, Italian Fanny Stollar, Russia's Maria Timofeeva, German Tamara Korpatsch and Anna Siskova of the Czech Republic also won their respective matches.Russian Erika Andreeva overcame an early deficit to upset sixth-seeded Italian Lucia Bronzetti in the opening round in Italy.
