China is again struggling with a frightening respiratory infection ahead of the Lunar New Year, when hundreds of millions journey home or abroad for the nation’s most important family holiday.
The good news is that—so far—the new coronavirus that has emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan appears less virulent than severe acute respiratory syndrome —a similar virus that jumped from animals to humans in China’s southern Guangdong province in the early 2000s and ultimately killed more than 700 people.
