The New York Yankees pitching prospect has moved into MLB Pipeline's Top 100.
“We can say without any doubt he has had one of the best seasons of any pitcher in the minor leagues,” said Mayo.Thorpe is pitching to a 2.52 ERA between High-A and Double-A this season, posting a 14-2 record in 23 starts, with 182 strikeouts in 139 1/3 innings of work.Thorpe was selected in the second round of the 2022 draft. He proved he deserved his promotion last month and dominated in his first start at Double-A on Aug.
11, tossing eight scoreless innings, two hits and nine strikeouts in a win.Recruited by Cal Poly as a two-way player, Thorpe has the athleticism and strength to repeat his simple delivery, provide plenty of strikes and pile up innings. He has advanced feel for pitching, and his ability to sequence and locate his pitches allows him to the get the most out of his stuff. He has a high floor as a near-certain starter and he could work his way into the middle of a big league rotation.
