Rogers says he was surprised every brand tested had detectable levels of the two heavy metals.

Five of the bars tested were above those levels for both cadmium and lead, according to Consumer Reports. They included:Trader Joe’s The Dark Chocolate Lover’s Chocolate 85% CacaoTODAY.com reached out to those manufacturers for comment. Mondelēz Global, the parent company of Green & Black’s, directed inquiries to the National Confectioners Association.

“Food safety and product quality remain our highest priorities and we remain dedicated to being transparent and socially responsible,” Christopher Gindlesperger, the spokesperson for the association, notes.A positive outcome of the investigation is that Consumer Reports also found five products that were considered safer, Rogers says.
