Singapore Schools to Implement Stricter Anti-Bullying Measures by 2027

Singapore's Ministry of Education will introduce tougher disciplinary actions, including caning and suspension, by 2027 to combat rising bullying incidents. A review has resulted in nine recommendations, including a new online reporting system and enhanced support for schools.

Caning and suspension will be among stricter disciplinary measures introduced across Singapore schools by 2027 to tackle bullying. The Education Ministry outlined nine recommendations following a year-long review, amid rising cases over the past five years. A new online reporting platform will also be launched to manage incidents. Schools will receive clearer guidelines and additional support, including funding and training, to handle cases consistently and effectively. CNA speaks to Assistant Professor Cheung Hoi Shan, a developmental psychologist from the National Institute of Education at NTU.
