No matter how you feel about the role or company, there are several questions to ask yourself before officially accepting an offer
1. How does this job fit into your life’s work?
Every job does not have to be an exact or even close match to the work that matters most to you, but you should always question how any job you take will influence your life’s work. For instance:Will it give you flexibility to show up more fully in other areas of your life?Will it help you pick up a skill that you need to help others?Assess your true answers and you will know if you are moving toward a more meaningful work life.
Or can you envision a more likely scenario where your predominant feeling each evening is exhaustion, frustration or apathy? By knowing how you will measure success in this new job you force yourself to determine what minimum bar has to be met for you to be satisfied. At different points of your career and life, success might look like a specific rate of promotion, compensation level or public achievement. At other times, you may measure success by your ability to get home for dinner four nights a week, work on your outside passions or care for an aging parent.
