We chat with BuddyGamesSpringAwakening director joshduhamel and his costars in the film, Dan Bakkedahl & Kevin Dillon, about crafting the perfect Buddy Games sequel and their comedy influences:

The boys are back and causing more mayhem with Buddy Games: Spring Awakening. Following the death of one of their own, Bob and his friends reunite to spread his ashes in one of their old stomping grounds during spring break, only to find themselves pulled into a rival version of the Buddy Games and facing off against much younger competition.

Ahead of the film's release, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with director and star Josh Duhamel, as well as his co-stars Dan Bakkedahl and Kevin Dillon, to discuss Buddy Games: Spring Awakening. The cast shared the influences behind the comedy sequel and the key to making a successful party montage. We just focused on the story, we wanted it to be about friendship, brotherhood, camaraderie, competition at the base, but also had to have the hijinks that people expect from the first one. So, Rachael Thoele, my right-hand writer, and Gabe McKinley came up with some really fun stuff. It is outrageous, and it does touch on some pretty sensitive social stuff right now, but I think in a way that's not too mean spirited.

Kevin Dillon: I loved the script. I thought it was great, I was like, "How are we gonna shoot this? This looks like a huge budget. I don't know how we're gonna make this happen." It's all there, it's all on the screen, and it all looks great. But it didn't seem like a bigger budget, I mean, there's a helicopter, hallucinogenic scenes —Dan Bakkedahl: Spring break, there was going to be a lot of people.

The first Buddy Games had a party montage, and then this one has multiple montages, with the big rave and the games themselves. From directing and acting standpoints, what are some of the biggest keys to really putting together a party montage without actually getting drunk and doing a bunch of drugs on set?
