Changi Airport suspends trial of mini-bus services for large groups after premium taxi drivers protest allocation of passengers, citing significant income reduction and unfair practices.

Changi Airport has suspended a trial of new mini-bus services for large groups of passengers after drivers of premium taxis protested the allocation of passengers. The trial, which began in February, led to significant dissatisfaction among drivers who claimed that the mini-buses were being prioritized over premium taxis, resulting in a drastic decline in their earnings.

Drivers reported waiting for hours in the holding area for passengers, while mini-buses were dispatched to groups as small as three to six individuals, who would typically have taken premium taxis. This situation caused the income of many drivers to plummet by up to half, forcing some to consider alternative sources of income. On February 13th, an estimated 70 drivers from ComfortDelGro and Prime Taxi agreed to stop picking up passengers from Changi Airport for a period of 15 hours. They parked their vehicles in the ground transport concierge holding area to express their concerns to Changi Airport Group (CAG) and other relevant parties. CAG has acknowledged the misunderstanding and is working with stakeholders, including the National Taxi Association (NTA), to find a solution. The mini-bus trial has been suspended until further notice.
