reports that Lane popped the question on Father’s Day while at Bushnell's family's house in Oregon. Lane proposed in the backyard after getting the approval of Lauren's dad, Dave Bushnell.. “So, I decided to keep it pretty casual.
While the proposal went pretty smoothly, as Bushnell gave Lane a resounding yes, there was one hiccup. “As I was about to propose… I stepped in fresh dog poop with my bare feet,” the “Take Back Home Girl” singer said. “Not at all how I planned it out in my head!” Lane performed a song titled “Big, Big Plans” for his girlfriend ahead of proposing. Bushnell admits that she didn’t realize what was happening until she heard the lyrics to the song. “Right now we’re back in her hometown/ And I’m down on one knee,” he sang.
“I lost it,” she said. “It was the happiest moment of my life! Chris is the most thoughtful person. He clearly put so much time and thought into not only the song, but also making sure everyone I love most was surrounding us in that moment. Holding each other, hearing the song for the first time and then seeing him get down on one knee is a moment I’ll never forget.”
The couple were friends for several years before they began dating in the fall of 2018. Bushnell got engaged tostar Ben Higgins during the 20th season of the show in 2016. The couple ended their engagement in spring 2017.
