In the era of AI, 5G, and cloud computing , people's lives, communication, and work have been radically transformed. The International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts that digital technology and AI will drive 70% of global economic growth over the next five years. The report evaluates the digital development of 77 countries, representing 93% of global GDP and 80% of the world's population, and classifies them into three categories: front runners, adopters, and starters.
It emphasizes a strong correlation between a nation's ICT maturity and its economic growth. For example, in front runner countries like the United States, Singapore, and China, a one-point increase in the Global Digitalization Index (GDI) score could raise GDP per capita by US$945. The report also highlights a growing disparity in digital investments, with highly digitalized nations increasing their tech investments 18 times faster than less developed ones. Singapore stands out as a model for digital development, having invested heavily in its digital infrastructure, research and development, policy revamps, and ICT talent. Adopter countries like Thailand should focus on expanding connectivity and supporting foundational technologies, while starter nations like Kenya must prioritize establishing fixed and mobile broadband connectivity
