BIG SUR — Nearly a year and a half after the Dolan Fire destroyed the Nacimiento Fire Station in Los Padres National Forest, $18 million in federal funding is on its way to rebuilding the structure, Rep. Jimmy Panetta announced Thursday.
“The loss of the Nacimiento Fire Station during the Dolan Fire was devastating for our firefighters and our community,” Panetta said in a press release. “Maintaining a functional fire station in such a remote location prone to wildfires is crucial to protecting the Los Padres National Forest and surrounding areas.”
Less than a month after sparking near Big Sur in mid-August of 2020, the fire overtook Nacimiento Ranger Station on Sep. 7, 2020. Some 14 firefighters were injured trying to protect the fire station.
