A 21-year-old Malaysian woman has been missing for months after telling her family she got a job in Singapore. Her mother has appealed for information and revealed that Liew did not have any permits for work or long-term stay in Singapore.
A Malaysian woman, 21, has been missing for months after claiming she got a job in Singapore. Dionna Liew Jia Yee told her family she started work in Singapore on September 1st. Her mother, Bao Yanping, said she last heard from her daughter on October 4th. Liew had previously worked as a piano teacher in Singapore but was fired after taking a holiday in China without permission. Bao realized something was wrong when Liew stopped responding to messages in October.
She reported her daughter missing to the police in both Johor Bahru and Singapore. Bao discovered that Liew did not have any work or long-term stay permits in Singapore. She also learned that Liew had taken a flight out of Singapore on August 28th at 9:18 pm. Bao went to Singapore's Changi Airport to try and find out her daughter's destination but was told they couldn't share the information due to privacy concerns. Liew's last social media update was in October, but her friends later discovered that her Instagram account and all updates had been cleared. Bao told reporters that it's impossible for Liew not to contact her or her friends as she used to respond quickly to messages and never stayed silent like this. The director of a public complaints bureau in Johor, Lin Daoxiang, said that the location on Liew's Xiaohongshu account changed from Singapore to Zhejiang, China, and then to Shaanxi province. He added that he tried messaging her on the platform but did not receive a response
