Phoon Chiu Yoke, 55, whom netizens often refer to as the "Badge Lady", is now accused of two offences under the Covid-19 Act and one under the Infectious Diseases Act.In last year's proceedings, the court heard that she joined the Republic of Singapore Navy in 1990 and held the rank of a major before she retired in 2002.
Phoon first made headlines when she was caught on video not wearing a mask at MBS on May 15 last year. The clip, which went viral, showed her telling safe distancing ambassadors: "Who are you? Who are you representing? Where is your badge? Show me your badge."Phoon left MBS without wearing a mask that afternoon.After she was charged last year over her earlier offences, Phoon walked out of the State Courts building, removed her mask in front of members of the media and smiled.
A month later, she was charged over this incident. Her bail was revoked and she was taken into custody.First-time offenders who breach laws under the Covid-19 Act can be jailed for up to six months and fined up to $10,000.
