The Nanaimo RCMP says it is investigating a fatal crash that took place near the community of Cedar on Thursday evening.
Passerby Martin Leduc says he came across the scene of what looked like a pedestrian hit-and-run crash on Harmac Road, southeast of Nanaimo, around 7 p.m. He says about half a dozen people were trying to help an injured young man on the street. However, according to Leduc, no vehicle remained at the scene.
Leduc told CHEK News that he is trained in first aid and tried to check for a pulse, but that he wasn’t able to find one. He says paramedics arrived shortly after and declared the man dead at the scene. Mounties confirmed with CHEK News that it is investigating a fatal crash and that more details were expected later Friday.Leduc says the man was found with his personal effects strewn about, including a fishing rod nearby.CHEK News has reached out to RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services for further details.Police are shown along Harmac Road on Friday, Oct. 25.
