The remains of 2nd Lt. James Litherland III will be returned to Williamsport for burial at a future date. In June 1945, an American Graves Registration team disinterred the six sets of remains from Abbeville and buried them in the U.S. Military Cemetery at St. Andre, France.Beginning in 1946, the American Graves Registration Command was tasked with recovering missing American personnel in the European Theater.
The following August, a DPAA recovery team recovered material evidence and bone remains that were sent to a laboratory for analysis.
