Renowned Singapore actor Laurence Pang, 78, revealed on a popular Philippine TV show that he was defrauded of over $34,800 by a woman he met on a Filipino dating website. He fell victim to a sophisticated scam involving a fake online shopping mall and cryptocurrency.

Singapore actor Laurence Pang , 78, shared his experience of falling victim to a scam after connecting with a Filipino woman on an online dating site. He appeared on the popular Philippine public affairs program, Raffy Tulfo in Action, to discuss losing approximately 1.5 million pesos ($34,800) in what he believes was a love scam.Pang explained that he met the woman, who identified herself as Mika, on Pinalove, a Filipino dating website.

Mika convinced him to participate in a business venture on a website she claimed was a legitimate online shopping mall similar to Rakuten. However, Pang soon realized the platform was a fake and designed to defraud him. He alleged that as a 'reseller' on the site, he was promised a 10% commission on each sale but had to initially pay for the products. He stated he was unable to withdraw his capital or earnings due to constantly appearing 'outstanding orders' that prevented him from doing so. Pang claimed he lost over $27,000 in cryptocurrency, totaling approximately 1.5 million pesos, to the scheme. He described being lured in by Mika's charm and how, as an older man, he was easily persuaded by her advances. During the interview, Pang admitted to taking a screenshot of Mika during a video call without her knowledge and noted that she appeared different in person compared to the heavily edited photos on the dating site. He stated he has since stopped responding to her calls. Raffy Tulfo, the show's host, promised to follow up on the case by contacting Mika. A representative from the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group was also invited to the show, where they discussed the tactics employed by 'love scammers.' They emphasized these individuals often gain their victims' sympathy before persuading them to invest in cryptocurrency.Raffy Tulfo pledged to accompany Pang to the anti-cybercrime group's office to file a formal complaint and locate Mika's whereabouts. He also offered to cover Pang's remaining expenses in the Philippines as a gesture of apology for the actions of fellow Filipinos. Pang expressed his gratitude for Tulfo's support
