With bats heating up behind stout pitching staff, Pearland rolls to 8-1 win over Dawson
Nik Anaya of Dawson and Jacob Turner of Dawson celebrate a run against Pearland Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Pearland High School.Brett Smajstrla’s first hit Tuesday night traveled all of three feet. His second one trekked about 343.
Pearland improved to 7-0 in district play. The Oilers were impressive on the mound, at the plate and in the field. Partida’s performance came on the heels of a combined no-hitter last week in which Pearland's Ryler Smart and Jaden Barfield teamed for the gem in completing a sweep of Alvin. “Even when we have these five- or six-hit games where we score only three runs, we know our pitching staff can shut them down,” Smajstrla said. “Now we’re starting to get these eight-, 10-, 12-hit games. It helps our staff, because now we can get pitchers into the game that haven’t had enough work.”
