A district court judge dismissed a defamation suit filed by two Taoist priests against the Taoist Federation of Singapore, finding they failed to prove their case.

Two Taoist priests, Ms Lou Ai Pang and Mr Kow Jong Tsuan, sued the Taoist Federation of Singapore for defamation. They alleged that the federation's chairman, Mr Tan Thiam Lye, defamed them by stating he was removing them from the committee. The priests claimed this caused harm to their reputation, goodwill, and respect. To support their case, they relied on WhatsApp voice messages sent by another committee member, Mr Johnny Tan, several weeks after the meeting.

The federation argued these messages weren't recordings of the meeting but only third-party interpretations. District judge James Leong dismissed the defamation suit on January 8, stating that Ms Lou and Mr Kow failed to prove their case. They were ordered to pay $65,000 in legal costs. The Taoist Federation of Singapore, representing over 560 temples, clarified that Ching Chung and Ling Bao temples were unanimously voted out of the committee during a meeting on September 20, 2020
