The Trump administration on Thursday will finalize a rule to pare back the types of waterways protected from pollution under federal law, a move intended to ease burdens on industries like agriculture and mining. The rule could deliver a political win for Republican President Donald Trump in the Farm

WASHINGTON - The Trump administration on Thursday will finalize a rule to pare back the types of waterways protected from pollution under federal law, a move intended to ease burdens on industries like agriculture and mining.

The Environmental Protection Agency's administrator, Andrew Wheeler, will announce the proposal to narrow the definition of"waters of the United States" that are protected under the 1972 Clean Water Act from pollutants like fertilizers, pesticides, and mining waste. "That was a rule that basically took your property away from you. As long as I'm president, government will never micromanage America's farmers," Trump said on Sunday in a speech at the American Farm Bureau's annual meeting in Texas.

Ahead of the announcement, industry groups praised the move while environmental groups criticized it.
