Need for minority organ, tissue and eye donors is acute, says GiftofHope MindUP AASAHQ TonySandersSupt

About 60% of the more than 100,000 people waiting for lifesaving organ transplants in the U.S. are from minority communities. And yet minorities make up only about 30% of registered organ and tissue donors, according to Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network.

Gift of Hope established the nonprofit in 2015. Funded through individual contributors and philanthropic donations, it has helped more than 350 people receive lifesaving organ transplants.

One person can save up to eight lives as an organ donor, heal more than 25 lives as a tissue donor, and restore sight for up to two people. Advocates say for decades Arab Americans have had difficulty accessing resources and services due to not being accurately represented in government data. The new law is critical to addressing the community's unique challenges, such as high poverty rates, discrimination and health disparities.

On Friday the buyout firm agreed to take Chindata private in a deal that values the Chinese data centre operator it already controls at $3.2 billion. That may seem decent: it’s almost 43% above where the New York-listed company traded before Bain’s first offer in June. But those who bought in when the U.S. private equity firm took Chindata public in 2020 or were hoping for a bidding war – or both – have good reason to be disappointed.
