For longtime Oklahoma coach Stoops, 62, the main difference is that his team no longer will be known as the Dallas Renegades, but rather, the Arlington Renegades, while once again playing home games in Choctaw Stadium. North Texas truly will be the XFL’s hub, although each team also will spend time in their home cities, connecting with their fan-bases.
The 2020 season under then-owner Vince McMahon was supposed to be a recast of the XFL that he founded in 2001. The TV viewing audience dipped from 3.1 million the first week to 1.5 million in Week 5, but the league seemed stabilized by its ESPN contract until the pandemic hit, eventually forcing the XFL to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
