The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has heightened security measures at Singapore checkpoints, leading to expected delays. Travelers are advised to prepare for longer waiting times, consider alternative transportation, and comply with all regulations.
In light of the heightened global security situation, security checks on arriving travelers, cargo, and conveyances have been intensified at all checkpoints. This increased vigilance, which includes attention to recent developments in the Middle East, is expected to result in longer waiting times for immigration clearance.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has issued a travel advisory urging travelers to anticipate these delays and to check traffic conditions at land checkpoints before commencing their journeys. Travelers are also strongly encouraged to consider using cross-border bus services as an alternative to driving, in order to bypass potential congestion at the land checkpoints. This proactive approach aims to mitigate delays and enhance the overall efficiency of border control procedures.\Adding to the anticipated congestion, the ICA also announced that very heavy traffic is expected at the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints during the Good Friday long weekend. To manage the anticipated influx of travelers, additional officers have been deployed to assist with security checks. The ICA emphasized the importance of cooperation, instructing travelers to adhere to officer instructions, observe traffic rules, and maintain lane discipline. This concerted effort seeks to ensure the safety of all motorists and minimize further traffic congestion. Travelers must also be prepared to present their passports, ensuring a validity period of at least six months remaining. Moreover, short-term visitors, including those with in-principle approvals for long-term passes, must submit a Singapore Arrival Card with a health declaration through the MyICA Mobile app within three days of arrival. Long-term pass holders are obligated to notify the ICA or the Ministry of Manpower of any passport particulars changes before re-entering Singapore. The ICA further advises permanent residents who have renewed their passports to update their re-entry permit details via the MyICA Mobile application. QR codes generated on the app are recommended to facilitate a more convenient immigration clearance process, and special assistance lanes are available for travelers using wheelchairs and family groups of up to four members, including those with children under six years old.\The ICA has also issued several warnings and reminders to travelers. Drivers without a valid Autopass card, a VEP approval email from the Land Transport Authority, or valid insurance coverage will be turned away. Additionally, individuals with outstanding fines may be denied entry into Singapore. The ICA strongly cautions against bringing in controlled or prohibited items, including vapes, given the increasingly strict penalties associated with vaping offenses, which include higher penalties since September 1st of the previous year. Long-term pass holders who re-offend may face revocation of their passes on a third offense, accompanied by potential deportation and a ban from re-entering Singapore. Drivers approaching the Woodlands Checkpoint are reminded to exercise caution due to ongoing construction and road works, and they are instructed to follow instructions from traffic marshals or officers on duty, observe road signage, and comply with traffic diversion signs. The ICA's comprehensive measures aim to ensure a safe, secure, and efficient border crossing experience for all travelers, especially during periods of high traffic volume such as the Good Friday long weekend. Furthermore, motorists should be aware that during the March school holiday period, fifty-six motorists were caught committing traffic-related offenses or engaging in dangerous road behavior, reinforcing the need for vigilance and adherence to traffic regulations
