South Korea is set to commence construction of a presidential office in the administrative city of Sejong in August next year, according to an announcement from the presidential Blue House on Tuesday, April 14th. This initiative, spearheaded by President Lee Jae-myung, aims to establish a functional presidential complex within his term, reflecting a commitment to balanced regional development and the fulfillment of long-standing pledges.
The Blue House communication secretary, Lee Kyu-youn, revealed details during a press briefing, including the issuance of a tender notice for site construction on Wednesday. The selected site will encompass approximately 350,000 square meters, with an estimated site preparation cost of 9.8 billion won (approximately S$8.45 million). The construction phase is projected to last around 14 months, highlighting the ambitious timeline set for the project.
President Lee's dedication to the Sejong project is underscored by his intention to hold his retirement ceremony in the city, situated approximately 120 kilometers south of Seoul, and his directive to officials to expedite the construction process.
