Starting May 1, 2025, all foreign visitors to Thailand will be required to fill out a digital arrival card (TM6) online before their arrival. This move aims to enhance security, track tourists, and boost confidence in Thailand's tourism industry.
Thailand 's immigration is set to enforce a digital arrival card for all foreign visitors from May 1, 2025. Those arriving and departing Thailand via air, land, and sea ports must fill out the digital TM6 form online. This move replaces the currently suspended paper card and will not incur any fees. Local media reports indicate the digital TM6 form will require personal and travel information, including passport details and a Thai address.
Thai passport holders are exempt from submitting the TM6 form. The implementation of the online form aims to enhance tourist tracking during their stay in Thailand, according to Tourism Ministry chief Natthriya Thaweevong. This measure is part of Thailand's strategy to bolster confidence in its security standards and address perceptions of the country as unsafe, particularly among Chinese tourists. Thailand has faced challenges with negative publicity stemming from a series of high-profile kidnappings, leading to cancellations of flights, hotel bookings, and even a sold-out Eason Chan concert. In response, Thai Premier Paetongtarn Shinawatra assured Chinese tourists of Thailand's safety through an AI-generated video in Chinese. The paper version of the TM6 form for foreign travelers arriving by air was suspended in July 2022 as a temporary measure to stimulate tourism and alleviate congestion at checkpoints. When this suspension expires on April 30, 2025, the digital TM6 will fully replace its paper counterpart. A source within the ministry, speaking anonymously, indicated that the imminent introduction of the online TM6 form increases the likelihood of postponing the 300 baht (S$12) tourism fee. Thailand has ambitious tourism goals, aiming to attract 40 million foreign visitors in 2025. In 2024, the country welcomed over 35.5 million visitors, generating 1.6 trillion baht in tourism revenue
