Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports is launching a mandatory online immigration form (TM6) for foreign visitors starting May 1st. This aims to streamline entry processes, enhance tourist confidence, and improve security tracking. Thai citizens are exempt from this requirement.

In a bid to enhance tourism and address safety concerns, Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports is set to launch a mandatory online immigration form, known as TM6 , for foreign visitors starting May 1. This digital system will supersede the previously suspended paper-based version, aiming to streamline entry processes and bolster tourist confidence. Thai citizens will be exempt from this requirement.

Mongkon Wimonrat, the ministry's deputy permanent secretary, emphasized that the government will prioritize the implementation of TM6 before other planned entry screening measures to avoid confusion for tourists. He clarified that the online TM6 applies exclusively to foreign arrivals. This mandatory form will be required for all travelers entering Thailand, regardless of their mode of transportation (air, land, or sea) and visa status, including those from visa-exempt countries like Singapore. The form will necessitate the submission of personal details, passport information, and a local address. Notably, there will be no associated fees for completing the online TM6.Furthermore, an anonymous source from the ministry indicated that the previously announced 300-baht (S$12) tourism fee is likely to be deferred, according to reports from Bangkok Post. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports' chief, Natthriya Thaweevong, highlighted the anticipated benefits of using the online form, stating that it will aid in tracking tourists during their stay. She emphasized that this initiative aligns with Thailand's broader efforts to enhance security standards and restore confidence among visitors. The reinstatement of the digital TM6 follows the suspension of its paper-based counterpart in 2022, which was implemented to alleviate congestion at checkpoints and stimulate tourism recovery after the pandemic. Thailand's move to implement a mandatory online immigration form reflects its commitment to improving tourism efficiency and addressing safety concerns, particularly after a series of high-profile kidnapping incidents that have raised anxieties among Chinese tourists.
